After being more actively involved with child services, I’ve become more and more aware of the dire situation for children in Oklahoma. Child abuse happens every day in our state, and the stories that are on the news represent only a portion of children being abused. Oklahoma is one of the worst states in the nation for child abuse and neglect. We have over 9,300 kids in DHS custody right now.

I wanted to create this video to make people more aware of the crisis we face for these children. It is graphic, but it is the truth. We all need to get mad about this… Need to ask questions, seek out answers and spread the word. All images and stories were compiled from news stories and the Internet.

I wanted to make a point. If we don’t collectively do something to stand up for these children, we will continue to see these tragic stories for children, which often end in paralysis, broken bones, and even death. I know it’s hard to watch, but that is the point. It’s the truth and sometimes the truth is hard to face… But we cannot move toward fixing the issue until we are fully aware of the severity of the problem.

Video objectives:

Raise awareness of child abuse in Oklahoma
Raise awareness of DHS’s Pinnacle Plan, and how it will truly affect the kids in our state
Call to action to help these children by: spreading awareness, fostering, or helping other families to foster
Raise questions as to how well our state agency is protecting these children
